ABOUT

A Late Start
Painting is really the only thing I’ve ever wanted to do, at least, since I realised there was something I wanted to do, besides enjoy life that was. That realisation came quite late,  around the age of 23, while fixing the rails on the London Underground back in 1988/89. Given my lack of any discernible skill, I decided I would learn to paint watercolors. My thinking was simply if I stuck with it long enough, I might be good enough to sell a few paintings.

Ambition
I had plenty of ambition, even if my skills weren’t there yet. It took a few years to go from painting simple watercolors to creating full-scale Pollock-style pieces in the garden. Looking back at this time, I think it would have been a good thing to have known some experienced artists who might’ve helped me realize that as soon as you start feeling confident in your work, your idea of what makes good art begins to change."

Family Designer
In between this times, I finally went to study at the age of 31, this was to become a designer. The web had just taken off, and I saw the potential to drag myself out of the 'no discernible skills' category and into a career of some form or another. The main impetus for this was the family that was now on the way.

Goldman Sachs
So, from 1996 onward, I went from loading milk lorries and painting watercolor landscapes to, buying a house, starting a family and managing the Goldman Sachs Intranet in 2001—all while trying to emulate Jackson Pollock, Ben Nicholson, and William Scott both of which were no small task.

Move to France
After a while and as much as my ego loved all of the esteem that goes with working for Goldman Sachs, I wanted to paint and spend time with my family. So in Summer of 2002, we upped and moved to the outskirts of Paris, we rented a beautiful big old house with a studio and I found a relatively comfortable job close by to keep us comfortable. It was here I came cross the idea of the Million Series, I realised then that I was never going to be able to have a 'career' as an artist, but that was not going to stop me from creating something both original, honest that I could call my own.

The Million Series
I know I have painted some good works, even very good, but nothing compares to the Million Series of paintings and that is why it is the only painting I am willing to focus my time on promoting.
